Korea - EU S&T Conference on Nanotechnology

9. Sep 2011

KORANET Conference 19 October 2011 Seoul/Korea

Seoul/Korea
Venue: Hotel Renaissance

Nanotechnology has become one of the most important technologies and basis of many products we use in everyday life. It enables to build systems and devices that have not been possible before. The completely new approach will be achieved by constructing and engineering the products from bottom to up by using the state-of-the-art nanotechnologies and tools.

Nanotechnology has been considered as general-purpose or enabling technology due to its nature. Typical advantages of using nanotechnology in the products instead of conventional solutions (materials) will offer features such as longer age, cleaner surfaces, safer operations and smarter behaviour. These features can be realized as new internal material structure of the product, slippery surface of the product or materials that does not react to sunlight just to mention few. As easily can be imagined, these solutions can be found in all fields of applications: medicine, transportation, agriculture and industry in general.

At this conference, current achievements of nanotechnology will be presented followed by a presentation and discussion of future visions of the technology developments as well as the main potential application areas.

Conference speakers include:

  • Dr. Jae Bum Choo, Hanyang University, Korea
  • Dr. Caroline Sun Yong Lee, Hanyang University, Korea
  • Dr. Arnaud Magrez, Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland
  • Dr. Jong Joo Rha, Korea Institute of Materials Science, Korea
  • Dr. Dong Ha Kim, Ewha Woman's University, Korea
  • Prof. Volodya Falko, Lancaster University, United Kingdom

This conference on nanotechnologies is organised in the frame of KORANET , a four-year project financed by the 7th EU Framework Programme on Research and Technological Development. KORANET aims at enhancing the S&T cooperation between European countries and Korea across all scientific fields. Participation at the conference is free of charge upon registration. For further details and to register please return the filled-in registration form to Mikko Sallinen (Mikko.Sallinen@vtt.fi) and Jawon Choi (choi_jawon@nrf.re.kr).
