All topics are discussed from the perspective of three important stakeholders, namely (social) scientists, journalists, and policymakers. We also cover how these stakeholders connect with each other, as well as with ordinary citizens. The objective is to discover what drives public trust and how people and organizations can earn it and maintain trust via improved communication practices!
MODULE 4 by ZSI: THE POLICY MAKER - Introduction to evidenced-informed policy making at the science / knowledge communication and policy making nexus
This module highlights a more integrated model of knowledge-policy relationship and the dialogue between policy-makers and scientists or science communicators for an evidence-informed policymaking. While traditional scientific policy advice often happened behind closed doors, modern approaches have incorporated the need of an open dialogue, more flexible mechanism and new arrangements of roles. In addition, the role of citizens as important stakeholders in the policy cycle has gained importance at the intersection of policy advice and knowledge communication. The module includes three videos inspiring participants with first-hand knowledge from theory and practice, inviting to dive deeper into these important issues for policy makers, policy influencers, scientists, knowledge communicators, journalists and citizens, equally. The module provides three sections with video introductions covering a) a short overview on the policy cycle and evidenced-informed policy making at the intersection of policy making, science and knowledge communication, b) a closer look at public communication and public engagement and, c) a quick step into approaches and platforms helping to engage with a broader range of stakeholders including citizens.
