Making STEM education more exciting and inclusive with making

Elisabeth Unterfrauner, Head of the Department of Technology and Knowledge at the Center of Social Innovation in Vienna, recently attended the 16th International Social Innovation Research Conference (ISIRC) in Bern, Switzerland. The event, held from September 2-4, 2024, was hosted by the Bern University of Applied Sciences at their Business School.

At the conference, Dr. Unterfrauner shared insights in her presentation, "Making STEM Education More Exciting and Inclusive with Making". She discussed creative ways to make STEM education more engaging and accessible for a wide range of learners, focusing on the potential of hands-on "making" activities. She highlighted the value of integrating makerspaces into schools and building partnerships with businesses to support project-based learning and real-world experiences.

Her session also included a co-creation workshop, where participants worked together to identify the key opportunities and challenges of linking traditional education with makerspaces and industry.
