COHRED is an international non-governmental organization. Its governance comprises a board that has a majority low and middle income country (LMIC) membership. Its structure is a network of centres of activity around the world - with most of the staff being permanently based in, and often citizens and residents of, LMICs. COHRED supports research and innovation as key drivers for development and the improvement of people’s health. Sustainable development in low and middle income countries (LMICs) is only possible where Government recognizes the importance of fostering an environment wherein research and innovation are valued, appropriately prioritized, and can prosper. Since 1993 COHRED has focused on strengthening the governance, management and systems of LMICs to use research, science, technology and innovation to improve health, equity and development.
