Akronym: FECYT
The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) is a public foundation established in 2001, dependent on the Ministry of Science and Innovation. Its mission is to promote science and innovation by bringing it closer to the general public. The Foundation organizes its activity through three focal points:
• Science with and for society. The goal is to increase the public interest and participation in science, especially among youngsters. FECYT funds dissemination activities through an annual public call for proposals and also launches its own activities.
• Scientific information and open science. The goal is to support the Ministry of Science and Innovation in the analysis of scientific information to design and monitor public policies, and in the promotion of Open Science through dissemination and training within the Spanish research system. FECYT also works with digital public infrastructures to support Open Access.
• Internationalization of Spanish science. The goal is to support the Ministry of Science and Innovation in the internationalization of the Spanish research system. FECYT promotes, through the European Office, the participation of Spanish research institutions in European and international projects. FECYT also participates in several European projects including projects of Citizen Science, Open Access, researchers’ mobility, gender and science diplomacy.
