Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production technologies DEployment in Latin American countries

If you are interested in nanosciences, nanotechnologies, materials and new production technologies deployment in Latin American countries, please join the project community here !

Interest in Nanotechnology has increased enormously due to its technology revolution potential. However, economic and social benefits from these large investments in research are nevertheless not appearing, as it would be expected. A thorough approach to nanotechnology and advance materials development must take into consideration the international dimension, in terms of R&D, access to information and regulation.

European industrial players and research organizations seek new collaborative agreements in order to share risks and explore new market opportunities. On the other hand, Latin America has started new nanotechnology development programs.

The main objective of NMP-DeLA project was to develop a series of activities between European and Latin American countries, aiming to strengthening the local research and training potential, as means to achieve the goal of deployment of Nanomaterials technologies on those areas of major social challenge in Latin America: energy, water and health through:

  • Networking, education and training in advance materials (nanosciences, nanotechnologies, materials and new production technologies): “Four Expert workshops and two Summer schools”.
  • Building new skills to enhance and strengthening the local knowledge in Latin America about nanomaterial technologies.
  • Boosting synergies with local/regional policy programs and cooperation programs related to advance materials: “Roadmap and recommendations”.
  • Boosting the creation of a Nanocluster between EU and Latin America: “Open Innovation Platform”.
  • Exchange of best practices, build capacity in nanomaterial-innovation and technology.

Whereas most of the NMP-DeLA deployment activities have been performed in Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Chile, the other countries of the region  had access to the different activities through project grants for participation in summer schools and workshops.

The project contributed to an improved understanding of the current and potential specific implications of nanomaterial technologies for addressing the societal challenges in Latin America (Healthcare, Energy and water purification), according to the specific needs of the region, and bridging the nanomaterial’s gap with EU countries.
