Second Westbalkan Science Day in Vienna - A Matching Event for Researchers from Austria and the Western Balkan Countries

In November 2006, the Austrian Science and Research Liaison Offices Ljubljana and Sofia (ASOs) organised the first so-called Westbalkan Science Day at the University of Vienna. Due to the great interest in this event, the ASOs are continuing with a second Westbalkan Science Day which will take place on 22 June 2009 at the Palais Eschenbach in Vienna.
Co-organisers of this event are the University of Vienna, Faculty of Social Sciences, the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) with support by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research within the framework of its SEE science cooperation initiative.
The Science Day is focused on establishing and promoting networking activities as well as strengthening existing cooperations between Austrian and Western Balkan researchers for further research activities.
The two thematic domains of the second Westbalkan Science Day are:
- Social Sciences (Changing society in a comparative perspective and Development and social cohesion in a knowledge society)
- Resource Management (Agro Food and Water Management)
The morning session provides information on research capacities in the Western Balkan countries, the Austrian research landscape and funding opportunities. The afternoon is dedicated to individual networking, the elaboration of new project ideas and the discussion of future cooperation in the thematic workshops.
