ESASTAP 2020 workshop on science for policy advice

ZSI will participate in the ESASTAP 2020 workshop on science for policy advice in Cape Town

Date: 25. February 2016

Section: Research Policy & Development

The Strengthening Technology, Research and Innovation Cooperation between Europe and South Africa (ESASTAP 2020) coordination and support action will be hosting a workshop entitled "ESASTAP 2020 workshop on science for policy advice" on 25 February 2016 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The workshop is hosted during the margins of the "Global Network of Science Academies (IAP) conference on Science Advice and General Assembly 2016" to be held from 28 February to 2 March 2016.

The ESASTAP 2020 workshop is targeted at representatives from academia, private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government who are involved in translating science for policy advice. The workshop will stimulate a robust discussion around science policy and showcase Framework Programme Seven (FP7) and Horizon 2020 (H2020) projects that have results which can influence policy and decision-making.

The workshop will be followed by an ESASTAP 2020 dinner reception at 17:30 at Southern Sun Cape Sun. The aim of the dinner reception is to present the new ESASTAP 2020 project, a successor of ESASTAP Plus.

One of the objectives of ESASTAP 2020 is to support the policy dialogue between the European Union and South Africa (SA) by increasing the knowledge of the EU and SA science and technology environment. The ESASTAP 2020 will build on the work and results of three preceding projects and respond to the needs and recommendations at the policy dialogue level, in particular to the mandate of the Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committee (JSTCC) and to the adopted roadmap for cooperation between SA and the EU.
