Thinking out-of-the-box with New European Bauhaus for cultural heritage buildings (management & policy making) – with comments from the INHERIT project

The INHERIT Multi-Stakeholder Forum 1

Section: Research Policy & Development

Date: 21. October 2024

21st October 2024, 11:00 - 12:45 CET (online) - please register for this event by 15th of October online here.

The event is hosted by the INHERIT project consortium partners Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) in Vienna, Austria and the Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI EUROPE) in Freiburg, Germany and is addressed to researchers and practitioners, equally.

The INHERIT Multi-Stakeholder Forum is a temporary space with yearly events between 2024 and 2027 for mutual learning and networking, bringing together scientists, practitioners such as representatives from the creative and cultural industries, policy influencers and users of cultural heritage discussing retrofit strategies, social innovations and further associated topics. The overall vision of the INHERIT project is to develop and to demonstrate next-generation solutions to improve historic buildings’ energy and resource consumption, climate resilience, accessibility, and social inclusiveness of historic buildings and ensembles. These solutions are tested in eight cultural heritage sites across the EU, warranting immediate learning and adaption to the local environment. In addition, INHERIT creates a capacity building programme addressing heritage operators and stakeholders (including large companies, SMEs, public authorities, research organisations and citizens) with a particular focus on the NEB community and projects, and works on policy recommendations towards sustainable heritage.

The Forum launch event highlights the New European Bauhaus (NEB) with its decisive role for sustainable change and shows approaches from research to implementation with a focus on cultural heritage buildings. The inputs and discussion will address the practical value and the impact of the NEB on cultural heritage and retrofit – with particular attention to the question of how NEB benefits the management and climate change-related adaption of buildings or cities. The event also showcases examples and first learnings from the INHERIT project, highlighting the connection between NEB values, working principles, and local stories, while showcasing both recognised and hidden cultural heritage assets.
