New models of cooperation make the world (of sience & research) increasingly move together and contribute on a postive development...

Science has always been an international endeavor. The pursuit to provide objective knowledge does not know boundaries. In order to be objective, it has to be possible to produce and use knowledge regardless of space and time.
Apart from epistemological issues, there are strong signals for trends of internationalization at the level of the scientific turnouts: There is an increasing share of scientific publications, which are written by a number of authors from more than one country. Co-authorship is a strong indicator for the quality, also in regard of the international exchange among the scientific community, an indicator that ZSI examines  in a number of studies. This is done with the aim to provide insights into geographic, as well as thematic and time patterns concerning scientific cooperation for decision makers. This knowledge is used to stimulate the internationalization more targeted to enable better the to evaluation of the results of internationalization efforts. Another aspect is to use identified partnerships to serve as a lever for new or enhanced cooperation.”

“ZSI is partner of the project KORANET, an ERA.NET with South Korea. In this project we were involved significantly in the conceptual development and implementation of two multilateral Calls for Proposals on the subjects "Research for Lifelong Health" and "Green Technologies", which were important incentives to initiate a sustainable research collaboration, both for many European and Korean researchers.
Furthermore we deployed an interactive foresight process with relevant actors on the basis of a number of expert consultations and workshops, policy recommendations and proposals developed for common activitiesin order to strengthen the European-Korean cooperation in science. These results and respective possibilities of implementation were presented and discussed in May 2013 at the final KORANET policy workshop.
In our currently released publication "Korea and Europe - meeting through science. Exploring the opportunities of R&D cooperation with KORANET" the two mentioned Calls for Proposal, as well as foresight results are presented. It also contains an overview of European and Korean science and technology strategies and policy instruments, networks and clusters, and the results of a SWOT analysis of European-Korean cooperation in science. Target group of the publication are all European and Korean actors in the areas of science and technology (research institutes, researchers, policy makers at the national and international level, cluster managers and intermediary agencies), which are already involved in cooperations or are interested in future ones."
