INVITATION: Social Policy Experimentation – Opportunities & Challenges

The Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) will host a workshop entitled ‘Social Policy Experimentation – Opportunities & Challenges in Practice’on the 4th of March 2016 at the ZSI premises. Other than presenting our experiences and the challenges faced or rather still continue to face during the implementation of our ongoing projects on social policy experimentation (Jump@School and INNOV-care) and the evaluation of “Sparkling Science”, we will also get to learn from the experiences of other European researchers in the area of social policy experimentation. Four researchers from 3 different European countries will present their ongoing projects in this area with plenty of time for discussions:
- Clara Barata is a researcher and invited professor at the faculty of Psychology and Sciences of Education (FCPE) at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Clara holds a master’s and doctoral degree in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a licenciatura in Clinical Child Psychology from the Faculty of Psychology and Sciences of Education at the University of Lisbon.
- Davide Azzolini is a research fellow at the research Institute for the evaluation of public policies (IRVAPP), Italy. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Research from the University of Trento and a Master Degree in Public Policy Analysis from COREP, Turin. His research area includes inequality in educational opportunity, migration and public policy evaluation.
- Joana Freitas Lúis is a PhD in Didactic and Training with a specialty area in evaluation, and holds a licenciatura degree in Childhood Education from the Aveiro University – Portugal. She is an Early Childhood Educator at Bissaya Barreto Foundation in Portugal Currently, she coordinates the implementation of the European Commission "Progress" project: Playgroups for Inclusion.
- Thomas Spielhofer is a quantitative and qualitative Senior Researcher / Consultant at the Tavistock Institute, UK where he leads the research strand on children, families and relationships. He has a strong track record of leading research projects in the UK and Europe relating to lifelong learning, relationship education and vocational training.

Background information
The workshop is organised within the Jump@School Project (Life-Long-Learning Program). The aim of this project is to successfully develop and experimentally test an innovative intervention to prevent early school leaving. This intervention is experimentally tested in different countries and cities with the aim of seeing the effects of different contexts on the results of the experiment.
