24. May. 2017
South African and European project partners met together in Pretoria to discuss the next steps of the ESASTAP 2020 project, which aims to strengthen technology, research and innovation cooperation and policy dialogue between the European Research Area and South Africa.
At the meeting, key challenges and opportunities were discussed to ensure the effective delivery of the project aims between now and 2019, when the project will come to an end. The partners agreed to organise ESASTAP participation in a number of upcoming events in South African and Europe to promote the opportunities for R&I cooperation.
The project meeting was followed the next day by an 'Open Science' workshop, hosted by the South African Department for Science and Technology. Key areas of discussion included the need for a legal framework for developing Open Science in African counties, transferring and storing data and opportunities available through Horizon 2020.
