HERAS High-level event: Strengthening the NCP System in Kosovo

14. Mar. 2018

With support of the HERAS project, Kosovo is currently setting up a NCP system for Horizon 2020

HERAS - Higher Education, Research and Applied Science in Kosovo is a project funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) with funds from the Austrian Development Cooperation and a co-financing by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kosovo (MEST). HERAS runs until the end of 2019 and contributes to the well-functioning of Higher Education and Research in Kosovo in line with the principles of the European Research Area (ERA) and the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). ZSI is project partner in HERAS and provides expertise in the fields of policy design and capacity building and institutional development in the Higher Education and Research sector in particular.

On March 13, a high-level event took place in Prishtina, Kosovo. The event's objective was to address Kosovo's current participation performance in Horizon 2020 and the new regulation on the functionalization of the National Contact Point System (selected experts who serve as a first national contact point for Kosovar legal entities interested in participating in Horizon 2020). The development of this new regulation was mainly driven by the HERAS project.

ZSI was the leader of this activity over the past few months and, in this role, has been contributing to the preparation of the new NCP regulation in close collaboration with MEST. At the event, ZSI was represented by Senior Expert Gorazd Weiss, who presented the different approaches and cases regarding the organisation of NCP systems in the EU Member States. Based on existing examples and best practices, he made recommendations on how to further develop the Kosovo NCP system under Horizon 2020.

The importance of this event was underlined by the participation of both the Kosovo Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Shyqyri Bytyqi, and the Austrian Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. Gernot Pfandler.
