National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyzstan)

The National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic (NLKR) is the main library of the country and one of the largest libraries in Central Asia. It is a scientific, informational, educational, and cultural center. The NLKR has 320 employees. The NLKR is a scientific - methodical center for all libraries of the country. Currently NLKR cooperates with National Libraries of 132 countries and with all international organizations accredited in Bishkek. The NLKR is also a member of international librarianship organizations like, IFLA, BAE and others. Library Fund consists of 6 millions documents in 90 languages of the world. The NLKR has 14 specialized reading halls for 1 000 seats and 24 departments. 1 250 readers visit the Library everyday. Mission of the Library – providing to Kyrgyzstan citizens free and equal access to knowledge, culture and information • Purchases and keeps the national documentary heritage of Kyrgyzstan for next generations • Public and cultural center of the country • Forms bibliographic resources about Kyrgyzstan • Conducts active publishing activity • Cooperates with international organizations and libraries of other countries CSL MES RK was participant of the project funded by European Union «Creation of the Center of the documentation of the European Union» - within the limits of support of the Agreement on partnership and cooperation between the European Union and КR» and NLKR implemented other projects funded by the following international organizations: UNESCO, Eurasia Foundation, the Democratic program of the Embassy of the USA, Soros-Kyrgyzstan Foundation, UNDP, IREX.
