Centre for S&T Potential and Science History Studies of NASU (Ukraine)
Acronym: STEPS-NASU
STEPS Centre operates as an independent research institute within the NANU since 1989. It has six departments and about 70 employees with an expertise in science policy, innovation, technology transfer, sociology of science, history of science & technology, scientific potential, R&D management, etc. STEPS Centre’s key objectives include: Fundamental and applied research in such areas, as science policy, history of S&T, economics of R&D and innovation, sociology of science; Advice to government and policy makers on science policy issues; elaboration of draft laws and legal acts; Postgraduate education in “Science & Technology History” and “Organization of Management, Planning & Regulation in National Economy” (with specialization on economic aspects of S&T and innovation). As the leading research institute in the area of S&T and Innovation policy, STEPS Centre has long-term and well established contacts with different state bodies and the Ukrainian Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Innovation. Researchers undertake projects with and for different ministries and take part in the preparation of the Annual Reports on the State of S&T in Ukraine, in preparing different drafts of laws, related to S&T and innovations. The Centre has firm contacts with the State Committee of Statistics of Ukraine and other research and educational institutions.
