Techmania Science Center o.p.s. (Czech Republic)
Acronym: Techmania
Techmania Science Center is a non-profit organisation established in 2005 by ŠKODA HODING a.s. and The University of West Bohemia with an objective to build a modern science center in the city of Pilsen and thus motivate particularly young people to begin their career in science and technical fields. The science center was opened for the public in November 2008 with the objective to build a modern science centre in the city of Pilsen and get people interested in how human knowledge is being used in technology and science. TSC is one of the leaders of The European Exhibition Evaluation Tool (EEET) pilot project set out to develop a user-friendly toolbox to assess visitor behaviour, investigate whether science centre exhibitions can be considered meaningful learning experiences and identify design elements that have the intended impact on visitors. TSC organises a number of outreach activities and events, e.g. the Researchers‘ Night, acting as the project coordinator in the Czech Republic. From April 2009 TSC is a hosting institution for an information centre Europe Direct. TSC participate in different EU projects such as Engineer, FAST, KiiCS, Places, Nanopinion. In 2011 TSC won second prize for the best popular science exhibition and the third prize for its journal “Techmaniak” among the newspapers that familiarize the public with science and technology in the competition of science popularization SCIAP by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
