The Department of Science and Technology Policy (DPCT) of UNICAMP was created in 1985 to run teaching, research and engagement activities in STI policy, planning and management. It heads one of the most prestigious graduate programmes in this area receiving students from all over the country and from many countries from Latin America. Since its origins DPCT has developed a multidisciplinary approach drawing concepts from different disciplines as for economics, sociology, history, engineering, and administration. DPCT has already graduated more than 200 masters and 150 PhDs that are now working at universities, companies and governmental organizations. Its competencies are in policy analysis, design and evaluation, innovation systems, foresight studies, planning and management of R&D and innovation, entrepreneurship and sectorial and regional development. In terms of international experience DPCT has developed connections with several organizations throughout Latin America, USA and many institutions in Europe, among them it is worth highlighting cooperation with the George Washington University, the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, the University of Strasbourg and the University of Buenos Aires. DPCT has been working for companies and governmental agencies either in Brazil, other Latin American countries and international organizations to help designing and evaluating policies and programs, carrying out foresight studies and preparing studies to support decision-making processes.
