Its activities are aimed at maintaining and strengthening the position of the university on regional, national and international levels, improving competitive advantage, and shaping its image of a modern institution, open and friendly to its employees, students, and the environment. The students can choose from 40 specializations within the range of courses offered by the faculties. European Commission awarded Wrocław University of Economics (former name) with the HR Excellence in Research logo. This quality mark is awarded to institutions that implement the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. This is a recognition of the University's efforts to create a friendly working environment, opportunities for career development and transparency in the recruitment process. WUEB has more than 17 000 students; more than 580 academic teachers; more than 73 000 graduates; more than 300 foreign students each academic year; the first lecture at the University was given in February, 1947.
