RRI-ICT Forum: Supporting & Promoting RRI in ICT research

Responsible Research and Innovation in the Information and Communication Technologies

In less than two decades, information and communication technologies (ICT) have totally transformed not only the way people connect, communicate and access information, but also the way they work and entertain, they deal with education, health, safety issues, etc. It is then necessary to thoroughly explore the two-way interactions between technology and society, and, putting the human at the center of the analysis, to explore how the digital age can be a true success factor not only for EU’s competitiveness but also for EU’s values in the 'Digital Agenda For Europe' (DEA) area.

The RRI-ICT Forum was monitoring, analysing, supporting and promoting SSH (Social Sciences and Humanities) contribution to, and RRI approach in ICT research and innovation under Horizon 2020. The project implemented the following activities:

  • Connecting: Active interaction with other RRI and SSH projects in order to understand their rationale, approach and findings, to identify best practices
  • Sharing: Development of an open online community platform devoted to RRI in ICT allowing research organizations to connect, identify potential partners (match-making functionalities), exchange information, benefit from tutorials and toolkits, discover success stories, etc.
  • Networking: Organization of annual RRI-ICT Forums, multi-faceted multi-disciplinary event, open and free of charge. They will provide a key periodic opportunity to  results of the project and invite organizations and any stakeholders interested in the RRI-ICT topic to contribute, through their exchanges, to driving the emergence of the RRI-ICT topic. Beyond a scientific conference, the Forums will also include specific events devoted to the art community or the civil society organized by the RRI-ICT Forum project.
  • Analyzing: Preparation of annual RRI-ICT reports synthetizing the information collected through all project activities, analysing the emergence of RRI in ICT, highlighting success stories, identifying best practices, suggesting research avenues, deriving policy recommendations, etc.

The RRI-ICT Forum was a 36-month project (start date: January, 1st, 2015), receiving funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
