The overall objective of this contract is to further support the European structured approach towards China, established in 2020 as EU R&I Knowledge Network on China (EU-KNOC): the political Core China Group (CCG) and an expertise-based Knowledge Network on China. These networks share information and best practices among its members, and serve as a platform for devising joint EU strategies to reinforce the Team Europe approach in this area, as well as providing recommendations for future policy and funding initiatives.
The objective is realised through five main activities, namely the management of an EU-KNOC Secretariat, support services given to the CCG, provision of advice to the Knowledge Network on China, organisation of a final conference, and overall project management.
- To develop practical implementation actions and strategies on the R&I policy with China of the EU and its MS
- To consolidate a coherent R&I policy vis-à-vis China
- To work towards a safer and more beneficial R&I cooperation with Chinese partners
- To faciliate informal exchange of information and best practices
ZSI is involved in the initiative in a policy support role. Along with other project partners, ZSI provides policy support to DG RTD on different matters in the context of implementing EU-KNOC 2.0 in the form of ad-hoc studies and/or recommendation papers. ZSI, among other activities, is responsible to deliver an analytical study on ogoing and planned bilateral STI cooperation activities between the EU, its MS and China.
The EU-KNOC2.0 is managed under the Global Service Facility of the European Commission. It succeeds EU-KNOC 1.0, which was launched under the International Service Facility between 2020-2021.
