Jugend Innovativ
'Jugend Innovativ' is a science-contest for pupils between the age of 15 and 20 organized by Austria Wirtschaftsservice (aws) on behalf of the Austrian Ministry of Economy and Labour (BMWA) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (bm:bwk). The contest takes place annually all across the country. 'Jugend Innovativ' aims to develop the creative potential of pupils in the field of application-oriented project work. The main thematic fields are business, design, engineering and science. The project idea is invented by the pupils themselves. Because of the special focus of JI - the interface between science and economy - business companies and the austrian patent office are involved in the contest (besides schools), giving support and advice and opening up the possibility for further utilisation of the project results. The most convincing projects are finally invited to international contests.
ZSI evaluated the programme, which runs now for 20 years. The evaluation focused mainly on the career and the personal development of the former contest-winners, but also on the further development of their projects. The evaluation results enable the further improvement of the contest and at the same time are a basis for reflecting in which ways the contest influenced the successful participants.
