Join the EULAC Focus discussion on sustainable futures

22. Mai 2018

The SDGs: How do they frame social relations between the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)?

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) strive for inclusive and cohesive societies that live in prosperity while respecting planetary boundaries. In our discussion we want to explore pathways to enhanced EU-LAC cooperation for the achievement of the SDGs along the following questions: How can cooperation between EU and LAC link different visions of the future and diverse models for the achievement of the SDGs? What is the potential of alternative socio-economic concepts and transition discourses from both regions (“Buen vivir”/ “Toda Una Vida”, “Post-Extractivism”, “Degrowth”, etc.)? How can they strengthen a common bi-regional vision on sustainable futures which leave no one behind?

Our panel members are:

Adam Tyson, Head of Cooperation with North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, DG Research and Innovation, European Commission

Hebe Vessuri, Research collaborator at the Director’s Office, Research Center of Environmental Geography (CIGA), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)

Karin Fischer, Head of Department for Policy and Development Research, University Linz (JKU)

Moderation: Barbara Göbel, Director at Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut, Berlin
